POLO IN BRITAIN A HISTORY by Horace A. Laffaye; Foreword by Nicholas J. A. Colguhoun-Denvers; McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishing

POLO IN BRITAIN A HISTORY is exactly what it says, a history of the sport Polo. I couldn't imagine playing a sport that involves riding a horse while using an extra long croquet mallet, hitting a ball through some posts. Of course some would say the same about Golf or Football. But given the fact that this sport started in the 1800's it is no surprise that it involved a horse. The fact that it was started by some Military Officials is not surprising either.

This book tells about the history of Polo, and has some pretty amazing facts. There are organizations that are strictly polo. There are a lot of cups too. I thought Golf had a lot of championships but Polo in my opinion probably has more. There are championships for Women Polo players too. If I had a horse I would like to try to play myself. It has information on past winners, photos of the Windsor family plus many more pictures of other players. It also tells how the sport traveled across the globe.

Did you know that polo is played with a team of only 4 players? I thought that was pretty neat given the fact that your riding a horse makes it safer to play in teams of four. I also found it interesting that the Windsor Family also play Polo. Prince Charles plays polo, as did his father Prince Philip. I didn't know that.

Given all the information in this book I would recommend this book for any sports enthusiast and any one who likes to read a historical book. I am going to get Polo in the United States A History next. This is a good read, and I give it a 5 star rating.
